13 Jul 2010 The Guardian, Charlottetown, PEI Island artist makes it to Top 10 of talent show Charlottetown singer-songwriter Kevin MacKay is hoping that a music video he created will be featured on America’s Got Talent. The Charlottetown resident is a Top 10 finalist in Citytv’s Think You’ve Got Talent Canada? The contest invites Canadians to submit a video of an original talent. MacKay believes his song entry, Peek-a-boo, is touching hearts online because it speaks of children who are “growing up way too fast.” “Many people who listen, especially parents, are telling me they have tears in their eyes because they can relate as they think of the love that they have for their own children,” says MacKay, in a news release. If he wins, the grand prize is a trip-for-two to Los Angeles for a live taping of NBC’s America’s Got Talent show. His video would also air. The idea excites him. “It would be amazing for my song to play on my favourite show and be heard by so many people!” People can vote for MacKay at Citytv.com by clicking the contest link under the America’s Got Talent portion of the website. Voting ends Friday, July 16. For the past couple of years, MacKay has put his music career on hold to raise a family and go back to school for a master’s degree in counselling. Previously in 2006 his debut solo CD entitled Something More was nominated in Music P.E.I.’s spiritual recording category. “It feels good to be getting my music out there again for people to hear,” says MacKay, adding he plans to keep writing songs and get back into the studio again to record another CD of original Maritime music.
